Calgary Neighborhood Overview: Chaparral.

Chaparral is a beautiful residential neighborhood located in the southeast quadrant of Calgary, Alberta. Established in 1995, the neighborhood was named after the Mediterranean climate biome. It is bordered by the Bow River Valley to the east, 194 Avenue SE to the south, and Macleod Trail to the west. The centerpiece of the neighborhood is a 32-acre artificial lake and a 21-acre park with two waterfalls. Chaparral has three sub-sections, namely Lake Chaparral, Chaparral Valley, and Chaparral Ridge, although they are not officially recognized.

In the 2012 municipal census, Chaparral had a population of 11,552, which increased to 12,654 by the 2019 census. The median household income in this community was $79,761 in 2000, and 4.4% of residents were low-income earners. In terms of education, Chaparral has one public elementary school, Chaparral Elementary School, and one Catholic elementary school, Saint Sebastian Elementary School.

Calgary Transit Bus Route 78 (South) serves the Chaparral community. The neighborhood is represented in the Calgary City Council by the Ward 14 councilor, Peter Demong. With its artificial lake, beautiful park, and excellent amenities, Chaparral is a great neighborhood to live in, and it continues to attract new residents.
